Del Taco Fresca Bowls

**Disclosure:  We did receive an appreciation gift card for helping to promote the new Del Taco Fresca Bowls.

One thing I love about Del Taco (besides being right across the street from my house) is that they are always coming out with new products to try!  I'm a girl that def enjoys some variety when it comes to my food!  And, most of the time we see all these advertisements, but when it comes down to it, they never seem to look like their promoting picture.  I have finally found one - look at my bowl above, now that actually looks good, right?!  We all know, when food looks good, it helps our mind into wanting it and craving it.   I was very impressed with Del Taco's new Fresca Bowls!  I got the Southwest Grilled Chicken & Veggie Bowl.  I was surprised to see how much meat was in the bowl!  Def more than they put in their tacos! I was very pleased with the amount of meat in the bowl.  Was very evenly proportioned.

Priced at just $4 each, Del Taco’s Fresca Bowls are served on a bed of fresca lime rice (Love Lime Rice!) and seasoned black beans, and are offered in the following three varieties:
  • Southwest Grilled Chicken & Veggie Bowl combines fresh-grilled chicken and a blend of fire-roasted, red and green bell peppers, caramelized onions and flavorful Poblano pepper
  • Pollo Asado Grilled Chicken Bowl is made with marinated, fresh-grilled chicken, hand-chopped pico de gallo salsa, onions and cilantro
  • Fire Roasted Veggie Bowl features Del Taco’s tangy green chile sauce, freshly-chopped pico de gallo salsa, and a blend of roasted vegetables

The Pollo Asado Grilled Chicken Bowl (500 calories) and Southwest Grilled Chicken & Veggie Bowl (530 calories) are each loaded with 4.5 ounces of fresh-grilled chicken per serving, significantly exceeding the amount of protein included in bowls offered by Quick Service Restaurants (QSRs) and fast-casual competitors. The Fire Roasted Veggie Bowl (450 calories) is an ideal meatless option.

Free Veggie Tales Event

**Disclosure:  I received an appreciation certificate in connection with Family Christian. All opinions are of my own.  Hope you will attend this fun event!

Our family has long been VeggieTales fans.  My oldest son is going on 19, so with four kids, VeggieTales has become a staple in our home.  What I love most about VeggieTales is the quality lessons that my kids get in watching the show.  I can trust and confide that my kids are taking in quality entertainment.  That is big for us!  These days it's hard to sit your kids in front of the TV and trust that they will be safe from what they see.  With VeggieTales, there's no question.

So many fun events this month which is one reason I wanted to get this out early!  Dress like a Veggie!

**How stinking cute is that!!?!

On October 31st, Family Christian Family Stores will be having a nationwide event at ALL of their Family Christian locations called Dress Like a Veggie.  On this day you are encouraged to bring in your child(ren) dressed like Veggies!  Each child that is dressed like a veggie is encouraged to take their photo and share it onto Twitter/Instagram.  If you are like me, you'll also need some inspiration! Visit the Dress like the VeggieTales Pinterest board.

All kids who stop by the store will receive small goodies (non-edible so allergy fears).

Best Part?! This is a contest!  To enter, the participants must have 1 child dressed up like a veggie (it does not HAVE to be a VeggieTales veggie…just a veggie).  You must upload and share one photo of the child(ren) in your local store dressed like a veggie.  Tag @Familychristian in your post & use the hashtag #FCVeggies

The grand prize winner will receive a $250 gift card for Family Christian.  Five runner ups will each receive a $50 appreciation certificate.

McDonald's Day of Change

This month marks the 40th Anniversary (wow!) of the first Ronald McDonald House and to celebrate we are asking you to do some digging with us. Dig in your purse, in your pant pockets, or in your couch and find all those pennies, nickels, and dimes lying around. Then head to your local McDonald’s and drop your change in a Donation Box at the counter or at the drive-thru. When living in California, I had the opportunity to tour a Ronald McDonald Home.  It was very heart wrenching and inspiring to say the least.  If you really are unsure at what goes on at one of their homes, I encourage you to stop by and take a look or even better, volunteer sometime at the house.  Take a look at our post back from 2011 here, when we visited The Ronald McDonald House & our own experience.

Remember, every penny makes a difference! Last year alone customers generously gave more than $50 million through the RMHC Donation Box programs worldwide which made it possible for RMHC to support millions of children and families. Let's help beat that number this year!

Challenge Update

**Disclosure: Although I have entered the program and received complimentary product and ZonePerfect promotional items, I am free to comment about ZonePerfect in a positive, neutral or negative fashion and all opinions are of my own.

Once again, we are all coming to the point where we will say "where has this year gone"?!  Admit it, we all say it this time of year and it's true, the years just continue to fly by! Our initial post before starting with Zone Perfect Bars you can find here.   We are revisiting that to see how we are today compared to then.   One of my goals this year was to exercise more.  I'll be the first to admit, I'm far from where I want to be - with not only this one, but with all of them.  With my husband having unexpected major surgery back in April and having to deal with that until now, threw us way off course.  That was something unexpected that we just had to "deal" with this year.  Now that that is finally coming to a close, we are starting to re-evaluate our goals.  And first and foremost is becoming closer to God.  I have started to read the book "The Complete Idiot's Guide to the Bible"!  Yes, lol sounds funny, but I really want to dig into it and learn as much as I can, healing from the inside out.

Next big one is the food we eat.  For the last seven months our second home has been the hospital.  Between that and everything else, our eating habits have not made a turn for the good, in fact I think that with everything going on, that caused us to eat out a bit more than normal.  Since coming home from the hospital last week, we have started with a plant based diet.  Instead of just jumping in, we have started off with just cutting out meat, chicken and fish.  That's a huge step for us!  If you know us, you know that we love our meat!  This is where the Zone Perfect bars come in handy.  I like to snack on one either in between lunch and dinner or after dinner as my "dessert".   I hope in the next couple months as we continue on our vegan diet, we continue to take the steps needed to improve our health and well being.  I hope you all will continue with me and join me as we strive to get more healthy!!

Operation Smile & How You Can Help!

**Disclosure:  This is a paid post with information and photos provided by campusbookrentals.com

Do you have a child in college?  If you don't already have a child in college, eventually you will and it's never too early to start planning!  I remember when I attended college, the cost of books was outrageous, so I can only imagine that that has not changed.  Have you ever thought of renting the needed college books? Not only can you save 40-90% off of bookstore prices, you get free shipping (both ways), are allowed to highlight in the books AND for each textbook rented, Campus Book Rentals donates to Operation Smile!  Can't get any better than that!  Most college books you aren't going to keep forever anyway, so why save costs, rent them and help a great cause!

Operation Smile is an incredible organization that forever changes children's lives through reconstructive cleft lip surgeries.   The long-term improvement in quality of life for the children that receive these surgeries is almost incomprehensible.

I also wanted to tell you about RentBack!  A new initiative that allows students to rent the textbooks they own - to other students.....which is Awesome!!  It helps to make them 2-4x more money compared to what they'd make through buyback options!  (selling their books back at the end of the semester)  Isn't that awesome!?!

An Exciting Update!

Great news to share with everyone today!! My husband, successfully had his colostomy reversal surgery yesterday! After having to reschedule twice, this was so exciting, especially for him.  Even though he will have weeks of recovery, at least he is at the point where he is finally on the way to a full recovery!  It's been a very exhausting past seven months.  Emotionally and physically on us all.  Our entire family have given up so much these past seven month and I know that was especially hard on the kids and Michael this past summer.  They are all summer people, love the sun and the water!  I know my husband and know that he will try to push it, but now is the time to take it slow, relax and just to let the body naturally recover.  Thank you for all your continued prayers and support!! xoxoxo
