The Mob Museum Hosts Commemorative Events, February 14-16

To celebrate six years of educating the community as well as visitors from around the world, The Mob Museum, The National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, announces a week of special events and debut of three new, permanent exhibit additions.

Wednesday, Feb. 14, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. – Anniversary, Free Admission for Locals and New Permanent Exhibits Open to the Public.   Nevada residents will receive free admission and non-Nevada residents will receive buy-one, get-one admission all day. In addition, the Museum opens a brand-new exhibition and two new experiential spaces that day:

Organized Crime Today Exhibition
Featuring artifacts, graphics and a large, interactive, 17-foot-wide Global Networks touchscreen wall, this exhibition space brings the story of organized crime into the present day, as well as modernizes the way the Museum tells that story. In addition to covering present-day rackets, Organized Crime Today explores active crime groups—such as outlaw motorcycle gangs, Yakuza, Mexican cartels, Eastern European mafias and MS-13—and the international array of law enforcement agencies that seek to eradicate them. Exhibits and corresponding digital content on the Museum’s website (www.themobmuseum.org) will be regularly updated to reflect the latest global organized crime developments.

Use of Force Training Experience
One of two new experiential spaces that explore law enforcement methods of identifying, apprehending, and prosecuting criminals, the Use of Force Training Experience places guests in the shoes of law enforcement officers. Guests will engage in an intensive training session using both digital and live role-playing scenarios that demonstrate the speed and complexity of use of force decisions. Related exhibits examine an array of factors that influence law enforcement responses to real or perceived threats, with a particular focus on the use of deadly force.

The Crime Lab Experience
The Crime Lab offers guests a hands-on, interactive exploration of five different forensic science topics. Guests explore the Crime Lab during the 25-minute facilitated experience, which is guided by a Museum educator and features original multimedia with insights from forensic science experts. While spending time at each station, guests will acquire a foundational understanding of scientific techniques used to conduct death investigation, DNA analysis, fingerprint analysis, crime scene investigation and firearms examination.

Wednesday, Feb. 14, 8:15 a.m. – Facebook Live Podcast; 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Book Signing with Steve Schofield, Author of “Scof on Scof: A Colorful Arrangement of True Crime Stories”
From mobsters to squad cars to Made Men, Schofield’s book charts his rise from a teen-aged flower-shop runner to a local beat cop on the mean streets of Chicago—and, finally, to Hollywood.

Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. - Book Signing with John Binder, Author of “Al Capone’s Beer Wars: A Complete History of Organized Crime in Chicago during Prohibition”
Guests are invited to a meet-and-greet with expert documentary consultant, organized crime expert and author John Binder during a signing of his well-researched and eye-opening book about Chicago during the Prohibition years.

Thursday, Feb. 15, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. - Wiseguy Speaker Series featuring John Binder
Author John Binder discusses details about the influence of prohibition in Chicago and the life and death of Al Capone.

Absolutely Love this time of year!!

Celebrate!

We love to celebrate!  Any little chance we get to have fun, laugh, enjoy and make memories is good in my book!  This year, I’ve resolved to have more little moments of celebration in the New Year. We all look forward to the big celebrations, like Christmas, New Year’s and July 4th. But did you know there are so many other quirky holidays on the calendar just begging to be commemorated? What about a slice of garlic bread for National Garlic Day? Some pet cuddles for National Cat Day?

I’m excited to share that I’ve partnered with viral holiday website National Today to share the ultimate 2018 holiday celebration calendar. Below, you’ll find the most exciting holidays for the next couple months!  Throughout the year we will be posting more — so you can party all year round with us.

I love celebrating at National Today because, not only do they clue me into each month’s holiday—they also give some fun holiday history, facts that will blow my mind, and helpful deals that help me celebrate in style.  This is great if you have kids!  We homeschool, so throwing these facts in and getting a chance to celebrate gives my kids memories that they will never forget and maybe even carry on with their own children.

Remember to mark these holidays on your calendar, and cheers to a 2018 full of celebration!

Here are a few classic February holidays. Galentine’s Day, anyone?

Pineapples on pizza, yes or no? The debate rages on.

Galentine’s Day (Feb. 13)
This classic holiday was made famous by Parks and Recreation.

Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14)
Let’s be real, isn’t all of February pretty much Valentine’s Day?

It can literally make someone's day!

MARCH HOLIDAYS
Get ready to celebrate these 5 holidays … but remember to beware the Ides of March!

National Pancake Day (Mar. 7)
‘Pan’ I have a whole plate of these?

International Women’s Day (Mar. 8)
In my book, every day should be Women’s Day.

Ides of March (Mar. 15)
Did you know “ides” actually means “15”?

National Puppy Day (Mar. 23)
We all deserve a puppy (or five).

Red Nose Day (Mar. 24)
This holiday is huge in the U.K. — it’s comedy relief for charity!
