Treat Maps from NextDoor

Love this!! As a Mother, it scares me a bit not knowing who's house your children are knocking on when going trick or treating.  I, personally have even seen / heard some creepy things come out from the candy givers.  Months ago, I received an email from one of my neighbors asking me to join NextDoor.  When I finally did, I love it!  It's a great way to connect with your neighbors, keep up today on suspicious activity and there's even a classified section.  Whether you live in a hip hood or a cozy cul-de-sac, the much anticipated tradition of trick-or-treating is an ideal time to explore your neighborhood. The Nextdoor Treat Map makes it easy to take your Halloween high-tech and safely connect with your neighbors for an evening of trick-or-treating, haunted houses and fun! The days of wandering aimlessly from house to house are over - download Nextdoor’s candy corn treat map to find out who is celebrating Halloween in your neighborhood.  Nextdoor’s Halloween treat map is printer friendly and will be available during October on Nexdoor.com and on Nextdoor’s free app for android and iphone.  (Which I have downloaded!)

I really hope you will help me spread the word on not only this fun treat map, but the NextDoor site itself.  It really helps to connect us with our neighbors which makes for a much safer neighborhood!

Movie Monday

I'm really excited about this movie, I have not seen it yet, but it def is on my list to see.  23 Blast is based on the amazingly true story of Travis Freeman. A typical teenager growing up in a small town in Kentucky, Travis is a local hero on and off the field. In the fall of 1997, in the prime of his youth, he is unexpectedly stricken with an infection that destroys his optic nerve. He becomes blind overnight. Under the influence of parents who love him, a physical therapist who challenges him, a coach who inspires him, and a best friend who he cannot bear to leave behind, Travis shows us what true bravery is by competing on the gridiron, helping his team advance to the State playoffs. We follow Travis and Jerry Baker, his closest friend, from the time they meet on the football field as kids through high school. Jerry’s attraction to the dark side of teenage temptations, beer and drugs, threatens to pull the friends apart. It is only on the football field where they truly connect.

Ahhh....Beauty, it's all something, we as a Mother strive to hang onto as we age.  As I get older and the wrinkles start to come out, I am always trying to find ways to help my skin stay firm and to blend in those fine line wrinkles.    My mom was not around much when I was growing up, so I did not have a mom to show me how to take care of myself.  We also ate a ton of fast food.  There was not many home cooked meals growing up.  I learned pretty much all of my cooking from my grandma.   From waffles, to salmon to artichokes - it was all learned from grandma.  My grandma also kept herself up.  Even through she could not get out at times due to her health, she would have people come to her, to do her hair and nails.   I always admired that about my grandma, that no matter what age, she always made sure she felt good about herself and never did she let herself go.  That is something I take in everyday.  There is hardly a day that goes by that I won't shower and get dressed.  When I go out with my family, I make sure I look good before I step out the door.  The one tip I can give you is - never let yourself go.

Suave is helping to encourage families to live better every day by offering products for the whole family at a great value at Walmart.  You can check out the Suave Hub for beauty tips that fit into your life - from a walk in the park to an escape in paradise.  Stop by your local Walmart - the one - stop shop for all your Suave needs. Del Taco Fresca Bowls

**Disclosure:  We did receive an appreciation gift card for helping to promote the new Del Taco Fresca Bowls.

One thing I love about Del Taco (besides being right across the street from my house) is that they are always coming out with new products to try!  I'm a girl that def enjoys some variety when it comes to my food!  And, most of the time we see all these advertisements, but when it comes down to it, they never seem to look like their promoting picture.  I have finally found one - look at my bowl above, now that actually looks good, right?!  We all know, when food looks good, it helps our mind into wanting it and craving it.   I was very impressed with Del Taco's new Fresca Bowls!  I got the Southwest Grilled Chicken & Veggie Bowl.  I was surprised to see how much meat was in the bowl!  Def more than they put in their tacos! I was very pleased with the amount of meat in the bowl.  Was very evenly proportioned.

Priced at just $4 each, Del Taco’s Fresca Bowls are served on a bed of fresca lime rice (Love Lime Rice!) and seasoned black beans, and are offered in the following three varieties:
  • Southwest Grilled Chicken & Veggie Bowl combines fresh-grilled chicken and a blend of fire-roasted, red and green bell peppers, caramelized onions and flavorful Poblano pepper
  • Pollo Asado Grilled Chicken Bowl is made with marinated, fresh-grilled chicken, hand-chopped pico de gallo salsa, onions and cilantro
  • Fire Roasted Veggie Bowl features Del Taco’s tangy green chile sauce, freshly-chopped pico de gallo salsa, and a blend of roasted vegetables

The Pollo Asado Grilled Chicken Bowl (500 calories) and Southwest Grilled Chicken & Veggie Bowl (530 calories) are each loaded with 4.5 ounces of fresh-grilled chicken per serving, significantly exceeding the amount of protein included in bowls offered by Quick Service Restaurants (QSRs) and fast-casual competitors. The Fire Roasted Veggie Bowl (450 calories) is an ideal meatless option.

Free Veggie Tales Event

**Disclosure:  I received an appreciation certificate in connection with Family Christian. All opinions are of my own.  Hope you will attend this fun event!

Our family has long been VeggieTales fans.  My oldest son is going on 19, so with four kids, VeggieTales has become a staple in our home.  What I love most about VeggieTales is the quality lessons that my kids get in watching the show.  I can trust and confide that my kids are taking in quality entertainment.  That is big for us!  These days it's hard to sit your kids in front of the TV and trust that they will be safe from what they see.  With VeggieTales, there's no question.

So many fun events this month which is one reason I wanted to get this out early!  Dress like a Veggie!

**How stinking cute is that!!?!

On October 31st, Family Christian Family Stores will be having a nationwide event at ALL of their Family Christian locations called Dress Like a Veggie.  On this day you are encouraged to bring in your child(ren) dressed like Veggies!  Each child that is dressed like a veggie is encouraged to take their photo and share it onto Twitter/Instagram.  If you are like me, you'll also need some inspiration! Visit the Dress like the VeggieTales Pinterest board.

All kids who stop by the store will receive small goodies (non-edible so allergy fears).

Best Part?! This is a contest!  To enter, the participants must have 1 child dressed up like a veggie (it does not HAVE to be a VeggieTales veggie…just a veggie).  You must upload and share one photo of the child(ren) in your local store dressed like a veggie.  Tag @Familychristian in your post & use the hashtag #FCVeggies

The grand prize winner will receive a $250 gift card for Family Christian.  Five runner ups will each receive a $50 appreciation certificate.
