Rinse, Recycle, Reimagine for a Bright Future

*Disclosure: This is a paid post in partnership with Unilever.  All opinions are of my own. This is a great campaign and I fully support it!

Soda cans, plastic bags, milk cartons, newspapers - all things we automatically think of when we think of recycling. Unilever in partnership with Keep America Beautiful wants you to Rinse, Recycle and Reimagine for a Brighter Future!  Go beyond our everyday recycling thoughts, think about how much is in your bathroom alone!  I bet more than what's in some of your kitchens!   Growing up our family recycled, we had bins for both trash and recyclables. My dad was big on crushing his cans and saving them for the recycling yard.  Not once, until this campaign did I ever think about all the items in my bathroom that could be recycled.   I mean, if you really think about it - how many bottles of shampoo does the family go through? On top of that all of the other bathroom bottles! Lotions, body washes, etc.....it's a lot, right!?

Unilever - the maker of products including Dove, Suave, St Ives, Caress and many more we know and love - is stepping in to inspire Americans to clean up their act in the bathroom!

Are you a bathroom hoarder? Yes ladies, I am talking to you....1 in 5 Americans (20%) have more than 10 bathroom products in plastic bottles in the bathroom at a given time.  You would think it's the ladies that recycle more right, especially with all of our beauty products - wrong!  More men (80%) reported recycling their empty bathroom bottles than women (74%). Come on ladies!

Unilever can't do this alone, and so the company has introduced the Unilever BrightFuture initiative.  What began as Project Sunlight in 2013 has evolved into a larger movement designed to bring Unilever's purpose to life and inspire Americans to take small actions that add up to a big difference - whether that's wasting less, sharing more, turning off the tap, turning on community activism or, simply, recycling - because everyone has a role to play in creating a brighter future.

Way to help spread the movement -

  • Spread the word by sharing a photo of your bathroom empties being recycled on Twitter and Instagram using #ReimagineThat and add #Sweeps to your post to be entered for a chance to win recycled, reimagined prizes!
  • Watch famous Internet Illusionist Zach King and others reimagine recycling and share their videos across your social channels.
  • Visit BrightFuture.Unilever.us to learn how you can help bridge the gap in bathroom recycling!

CELEBRATING CINCO DE MAYO

Cinco de Mayo is a holiday that calls for celebration and entertaining.  Given that it falls on a Tuesday this year, I know a lot of parties that will be going on over this coming weekend to celebrate the holiday.  According to History.com, "Cinco de Mayo is widely interpreted as a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage" and revelers in the United States "mark the occasion with parades, parties, mariachi music, Mexican folk dancing and traditional foods." If you're among the millions celebrating this year, but need some inspiration for a crowd pleasing fiesta with true Mexican flare, you're in luck!

Chef Pai Jinich, host of the hit PBS series, "Pati's Mexican Table," is sharing with us some fun facts about avocados!  They are an extremely versatile fruit that adds creamy, rich texture and delicious flavor that will take your favorite Mexican dishes to the next level this Cinco de Mayo.

Some fun avocado facts:

  • During the week of Cinco, 33,892,841 million pounds of avocados are consumed!
  • Over 66 million individual avocados are consumed during the week of Cinco. Enough for half of the entire Mexican population to get their own avocado.
  • The amount of avocado consumed during Cinco week is 51 times the population of Denver, the city that holds one of the top Cinco de Mayo festivals, "Celebrate Culture" and 6 times that of the entire Colorado population.
  • The avocado is also known as the "Alligator Pear", Alligators weigh around 1,000 pounds each. The weight of the avocados consumed would equal around 33,000 alligators.

Del Real Foods + Giveaway

*Disclosure: Our family was sent a party box for our participation.  All opinions are of my own. No monetary compensation was received.

Before I got married, I just to think that Mexican food was something we got from a fast food joint on the side of the road.  So needless to say, I was blown away when I got married and my husband would start cooking real Mexican food or take me to a real Mexican restaurant.  When I think of good Mexican food, I think of little old Mexican ladies spending literally hours in the kitchen.  I thought to  myself, there is no way I'm going to be able to do that! I'm not a good cook to begin with, so to be able to satisfy my family with some good ole Mexican food, I was going to have to find another way.

Whala!  How does that look!?! Looks bomb, right! It was!!  It took me less than 30 minutes and tasted like I had made everything from scratch!  Introducing the Al Pastor Taco Kit from Del Rey Foods. This is now a permanent item on my grocery list.  It was fast, easy and everything was already prepared for me, I just had to heat it up and serve!   Del Rey's Al Pastor Taco Kit comes with fully cooked Al Pastor meat, plenty of street taco size corn tortillas and salsa roja.   I'm a plain girl, so I will admit, I eat everything plain, my burgers to my tacos.  We did not double layer the tortillas and there was just enough to feed our family of four.  To tell you how good this meat was - I had seven tacos!  Yes, seven!  The meat was flavored just right with just a little kick to it.  Now the salsa was spicy, I did stick my finger in it to get a taste and it was way too hot for my liking, but the hubby and son enjoyed it.  Another favorite of our was the pork tamales!  Sometimes when you buy tamales there is so little meat in them, these were stuffed with meat and the mesa was so moist and good!  I have def found my go to for fast, easy great tasting Mexican food!

Staying Motivated.....or the lack of

I seem to be really struggling with my weight this year.  I have periods of success, but those don't often last long.  What ever I do, I just can't seem to stay motivated.  I know my husband has a lot to do with it to, he goes on these sweet binges every now and then & takes me with him.  But...I still have no one to blame but myself.  I have to find something and stick with it no matter what.  Something that will help give me the motivation and success I need to overcome my weaknesses.  I also have hypothyroidism, which I'm not saying is an excuse by any means, but it does make it harder for me to lose weight.

I'm thinking about giving Shakeology a go. But I have read so many mixed reviews.  And then there's exercise - I will go strong for a week, then slowly fade and stop all together.  So what's your trick to staying fit, staying motivated and just doing it!?!  Help!! lol!
