October 20, 2016 is World Osteoporosis Day!

Disclosure:  This post is in partnership with Sunsweet

Led by the International Osteoporosis Foundation, World Osteoporosis Day (WOD) takes place every year on October 20th to emphasize and raise awareness around the importance of building healthy bones.

Over 200 million people worldwide are affected by osteoporosis, with an osteoporotic fracture occurring every three seconds. Taking preventative measures, and making simple lifestyle shifts, is key to navigating and preventing the risk of osteoporosis. Nutrition, coupled with physical activity and early detection, plays an integral role in protecting the future of your bones. Research findings suggest that eating prunes can lead to improved bone health.

Osteoporosis runs in my family.  I watched my Grandmother, who was like a mother to me, suffer every day due to it's affect. Her bones were so brittle, that when ever she had to ride in a vehicle, she would need to be very careful, going over a bump too fast could easily break her bones.  Tuesday - I will be wearing white to help embrace better bone health!

Recognizing World Osteoporosis Day provides a reminder of the importance of bone health. “Nutrients found in prunes – vitamin K, phosphorus, boron and potassium and polyphenols – contribute to bone health. Paired with calcium, vitamin D and weight bearing exercise, people of all ages can protect themselves,” says Shirin Hooshmand, PhD, Associate Professor of Nutrition at San Diego State University. Hooshmand has been involved in founding research related to prunes and their effect on bone health.

MegaFood Kids Nutrient Booster Powders

I received this product for free from Moms Meet (momsmeet.com), May Media Group LLC, who received it directly from the manufacturer. As a Moms Meet blogger, I agree to use this product and post my honest opinion on my blog. The opinions posted are my own.

Keeping my kids healthy and active is one of our top priorities.  Both of our youngest are involved in sports, so it's even more important that they are getting the right nutrition in them daily.  I'll be the first to admit, our family is not the healthiest, we love our pizza, greasy burgers and chocolate.  I'm not much of a breakfast eater either.  Through out this last month, we've been trying to change that, taking one day at a time.  To start our day, we try to make it simple and sweet!  After all, they say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

Something the kids and I agreed on is smoothies.  It's easy, we can do it together and it provides the nutrients we need to help us get through the day.   MegaFood powders are perfect to slip in our morning smoothies!  We try to base it with as much veggies as possible, adding in some ice and a fruit to help sweeten things up and some MegaFood powder.  MegaFood uses real food, all natural, farm fresh whole foods.  They have partnered with Kauai Organic Farms, Lundbert Family Farms and Uncle Matt's Organic to create these powders that can almost be put in anything.  Both of my kids are not pill swallowers, I even couldn't swallow pills until I was in my early 20's.  So these powders are a great way to sneak in those needed nutrients.

MegaFood Powders are tested and free of gluten, dairy, soy, pesticides and herbicides.  They also contain no sugars, sweeteners, flavorings, colorings or preservatives!  MegaFood is for children fives years and older and has three options:

  • Kids Daily Multi: Promotes well-being and healthy development with organic tumeric, carrots, fresh fruits and 23 essential vitamins and minerals per serving.*
  • Kids Daily Immune:  Featuring oragnes from Uncle Matt's Organic and elderberry and echinacea which helps to promote and strengthen a healthy immune system.*
  • Kids Daily B-Centered: A daily support for mental focus *
