Martha Speaks

Everyone’s favorite talking dog is back as Martha Speaks premieres 5 new episodes President’s Day week, February 21st through the 25th. Tune-in as Martha and her friends offer their unique take on the arts, specifically opera, classical music, theater, and even Greek myths!

“We hope Martha can provide a fun introduction to opera and classical music, theater, and Greek mythology,” says Senior Executive Producer Carol Greenwald. “For some kids, this will be their first exposure to these art forms. These subjects might seem really grown-up, but Martha has her own unique way of making them accessible to kids.”

The fun starts with “The Opera Contest” and “Maestro Martha” on Monday, February 21st.   In “The Opera Contest,” a local opera company is holding a contest to get kids interested in opera. When Martha helps the kids enter their own opera, will the audience shower them with applause? In “Maestro Martha,” bad guys Pablum and Weaselgraft have a plan to turn a charity concert into a heist by using the power of music...very strange music. Can Martha turn down the volume on their evil scheming before it’s too late?

Also airing during this special week is “Skits and Mr. Scruffles” and “Brave Truman” on February 22nd, and “Patrol Dog Martha” and “The Crooning Crook Caper” on February 24th.  Check local listings for exact air dates and times for all Martha Speaks episodes.

Martha Speaks Online

In addition to new episodes, join Martha and pals online at PBSKIDS.org/martha for new games, printables, and videos. New this season is a feature called Dog Tags that lets kids upload a picture of their pet, decorate and tag it with vocabulary words from the show like miniature, peculiar and nimble, and submit their creations to Martha’s featured pet gallery. In addition, kids can play with theater-associated words in the new game Truman’s Word Play. In this game, Truman sets the stage for the rest of the Martha crew to put on a terrific show. Kids participate in the production by first selecting a word on the stage and then providing the action for three different uses of that word. They actively learn the vocabulary as they mimic a dance, make a bowl of soup vanish, balance a sombrero by catapulting pineapples, and more at http://pbskids.org/martha/games/wordplay.

PBS is celebrating the 5Th Anniversary of the hit show Curious George! Premiering Labor Day, September 6Th on PBS Kids, everyone's favorite little monkey is back with exciting new adventures that encourage preschoolers to explore and engage with the world around them through social science related themes.

I totally love the new series. Curious George has been a staple in our home. It's a show that I can trust my children with and feel comfortable with them watching. Something I don't have to give a second thought about. I love the adventures that Curious George takes the kids on. We will sometimes talk about the show and what we learned after watching. This new episode is amazing - partly because I love the ethnic feel to it and because it's my husbands heritage. I know I can always trust PBS with my kids! Thanks PBS for bringing another great season to us!

Straight from PBS - a sneak peek into the premier episode:
In the season premiere episode, "George and Marco Sound it Out," viewers are introduced to George's new friend, eight-year-old Marco, who plays in his family's pan-Latin band, Lobos de Plata. George loves watching Marco's band perform in Endless Park, so when the bandstand is taken down suddenly, the pair set out on a whirlwind adventure to find the perfect place for the band to play. Throughout the new season, Marco introduces George to unique elements of Hispanic culture like food, music and celebration.
