BURBANK, Calif. (May 29, 2018)—Production has begun on “Maleficent II,” a sequel to the 2014 global box office hit “Maleficent,” at Pinewood Studios and on locations throughout the U.K.. Oscar® and three-time Golden Globe® winner Angelina Jolie (“Girl, Interrupted,” “Wanted”) and Elle Fanning (“The Beguiled,” “Super 8”) reprise their roles as the dark fairy Maleficent and Princess Aurora, respectively, two characters from the studio’s animated classic “Sleeping Beauty,” whose untold story was brought to life on screen in “Maleficent.”

Michelle Pfeiffer (“Murder on the Orient Express,” “Ant-Man and the Wasp”), the Golden Globe® Award winning, Emmy® nominated and three-time Academy Award® nominated actress, joins the cast as Queen Ingrith. Also joining the production are Academy Award® and Golden Globe nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor (“Doctor Strange,” “12 Years a Slave”), Ed Skrein (“Deadpool,” “Game of Thrones”) and Robert Lindsay (“My Family,” “Wimbledon”). Harris Dickinson (“The Darkest Minds,” “Trust”) joins “Maleficent II” as Prince Phillip.

A fantasy adventure that picks up several years after “Maleficent,” in which audiences learned of the events that hardened the heart of Disney’s most notorious villain and drove her to curse a baby Princess Aurora, “Maleficent II” continues to explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen, as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within.

This new experience will immerse families in a thrilling journey using the first-ever integration of interior projection mapping and the never-before-adapted technique will captivate guests as they embark on the exciting adventure created and produced by DreamWorks Animation and Universal Creative

Universal Studios Hollywood channels its inner Master Shifu from DreamWorks Animations hit film, Kung Fu Panda, with today’s gift announcing Friday, June 15 as the official grand opening date of its all-new DreamWorks Theatre featuring the premier attraction, “Kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest.”   Inspired by the global blockbuster franchise, the attraction will take guests on a thrilling journey that fuses captivating storytelling with state-of-the art visual effects for a highly engaging experience. 

Created and produced by DreamWorks Animation and Universal Creative, “Kung Fu Panda:  The Emperor’s Quest” recounts a plot filled story whereby on the morning of The Emperor’s Great Feast of Heroes, dragon warrior Po embarks on a wild and perilous mission to deliver the rare and precious Liquid of Limitless Power to the Palace, while enlisting guests to join him on the exciting adventure filled with raging rapids, river pirates, awesome magic and Kung Fu.  With cutting-edge technology at the forefront of the multi-sensory attraction, “Kung Fu Panda:  The Emperor’s Quest” will introduce the first-ever integration of interior projection mapping designed to engulf guests in 180 degrees of immersive adventure.  Developed by the innovative team at Universal Creative, this never-before-adapted technique will depict a series of immersive and visually dynamic scenic designs that will transform within the interior space and enhance the story. With detailing that is so precise, it will be near impossible to realize the projected imagery is a mere illusion.   Coupled with seven Christie 4K Boxer Cinema Projectors and 360 degree surround sound audio, sweeping physical effects from water to wind will empower guests to feel more like participants than spectators in the adrenaline-spiked adventure.

As guests navigate past the ticket booth, through the flourishing outdoor garden and into the theatre queue, they will encounter a series of 36 movie posters that pay homage to DreamWorks Animation films. Within the lobby, a selection of over 20 award statuettes will be on display, representing a sampling of the Golden Globe, Emmy, People’s Choice, Critic’s Choice, National Board of Review and Annie awards DreamWorks Animation has amassed from 2008 to 2015. A collection of original sculpted maquettes of the “Kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest” characters will also be on display along with artifacts embodying magical powers that Po brought back from the Spirit Realm.

An upcoming family event, the Rock N Roar celebration on Saturday will be May 5th, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at non-profit, Lion Habitat Ranch!

Proceeds will benefit Sunrise Children’s Foundation and their efforts to support the HIPPY Program’s (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters) School Ready Initiative.

Free River Rafting - Las Vegas (Hurry & Book!)


Black Canyon River Adventures, in conjunction with the Las Vegas Science & Technology Festival, is offering the Black Canyon/ Hoover Dam Postcard tour, a short smooth-water river rafting excursion on the Colorado River,  on Science Is Everywhere Day, Sunday, April 29. The experience is FREE, but registration is required. Reservations may be made by calling (702) 278-0606.

The tour includes spectacular views of Hoover Dam and the Mike O’Callaghan – Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, as well as the majestic, rugged landscape of the area. Guests check in at the Alan Bible Visitor Center for the Lake Mead National Recreation Area (10 Lakeshore Rd., Boulder City, NV), and from there are transported down the historic Lower Portal Road to the Black Canyon Water Trail of the Colorado River. From that point, guests will board a motorized raft piloted by a guide for a 30-minute float trip. All guests should allow for 1.5 hours total for this tour from the park service parking area and back. Available tour times are 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on April 29; each tour time accommodates 45 guests.

ABOUT BLACK CANYON RIVER ADVENTURES
This unique excursion takes place aboard a motor-assisted raft that allows guests to leisurely enjoy and learn about the history, desert wildlife and beauty in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River. The tour takes place along the portion of the Colorado River designated as the Black Canyon National Water Trail by the National Park Service in 2014.

Both full-day (4.5 hour) and “postcard” tours (1.5 hours) are available. The full-day trip covers 12 miles of the Colorado River and culminates at Willow Beach Marina on Lake Mohave in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. A boxed lunch and transportation back to the departure point is included.  Transportation back to your hotel is also available. The postcard tour stays within ½ mile of Hoover Dam and offers spectacular photographic opportunities of the dam and the Mike O’Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial (bypass) bridge completed in October 2010.
