Take a Tour of Nevada Donor Network on Science is Everywhere Day

As Donate Life Month comes to a close, step inside Nevada Donor Network to learn more about the human body and the lifesaving gift of organ, eye and tissue donation.

Nevada Donor Network today announced that it will open its doors to the public this Sunday, May 1 when the community will be invited to tour Nevada’s only Organ Perfusion Lab and see real organs as part of the Las Vegas Science and Technology Festival’s “Science is Everywhere Day.” These guided tours will allow community members to learn what happens when someone is in need of a lifesaving transplant, and meet local transplant recipients, living donors, and family members of donor heroes who gave the gift of life to others. Food, music and kid-friendly entertainment will be provided at no cost. Tours will be available every 15 minutes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In addition to hands-on learning opportunities, Nevada Donor Network will provide the chance to register as a donor hero and answer questions about donation. More than 121,000 Americans are currently awaiting a lifesaving organ transplant, and 22 people die each day because needed organs are not donated in time. Additionally, one million tissue transplants are completed each year and 48,000 people receive the gift of sight through cornea donations. Transplant recipients, donor hero family members and representatives from Nevada Donor Network will be available for interviews.
