Happy Grandparents Day!!

Grandparents Day is a day that is too often overlooked. September 13Th is the 30Th annual National Grandparents Day. I would have been lost in life if it was not for my Grandmother. She was more of a Mother to me than my own Mother ever was. My greatest memories of childhood were those spent at Grandma's house. My younger sister and I spent many weekends at Grandma and Grandpa's house when we were kids. My Grandpa loved to bake fresh bread, tell his Navy stories and work out in his garden where we would help him by holding the hose over the rail and water for him. My Grandpa was a Navy man and you would always know it by the stories he told. He was a stubborn man, growing up in the era he did and coming out of the Navy. We use to dread his long boring stories when we were kids. Now that he is gone and I am older I think back about how interesting his stories really were and wish I would have taken the time to sit down with him to listen about his life history.

When I think of my Grandma my eyes just start to water up. She is the one single person who has made the most impact in my life. She was not only my Grandmother, but was a Mother to me also. She is my only living Grandparent. This is a special year for us, my youngest daughter will be turning five on September 25Th and my Grandmother will be 85 on October first. Eighty years and four generations apart, wow! The picture below is of the two of them, look at those smiles and those rosy cheeks they both have! They look so much alike in this picture!
No matter what my past held, my mistakes in life, or my flaws, my Grandmother is the one person who has always loved me no matter what. She has showed me what unconditional love really is. For my two younger children, this is the only grandparent they have. I wish my children would have had the opportunity to grow up with Grandparents as I believe it is so important for every child to have Grandparents.

Happy Grandparents Day Grandpa - I know you are looking down on us and we think about you often, every time I look out at the ocean I think of you, I love you! Grandma - I love you more than words can even say, you mean so much to me, I thank you for everything you have installed in me and wish you the best possible Grandparents Day! I love you both!

  1. I no longer have any living grandparents and miss them so much...especially one of my grandmother's. She passed away when I was only 8 1/2 years old but, even 29 years later, I have such fond memories of her. She was always so sweet and kind to me. She never had much money but always loved to buy us little gifts when she could. They had more meaning to me than any expensive gift I received. She always called me the sweetest of the sweeties.

  2. Completely off topic... you have a great looking blog. Kudos to you, and I now I feel a little crummy for not knowing it was grandparents day.

    Don't tell my mom... okay?
